DIY Electric Hydrofoil: Most of the parts I ordered have finally arrived. Two months ago, I thought the process of getting parts would be simple and quick with eBay and Amazon prime, but boy was I wrong!
When it comes to buying electronics online, most parts are from overseas and it takes 3-6 weeks to arrive. You can opt to buy them from local retailers but in most cases, you will be paying 2-3x more for the same parts, which I opted to wait to save about $1,000 dollars. So, I used the time to figure out exactly how I planned to attack each angle of this new toy/machine.
I decided, to take the path of least resistance and build a mini dream team. Like Simon, who is a local guy, eager to learn, convert my sketches into 3D CAD drawings, and then print the parts for me. He quickly fell in love with the concept and now we are doing this build together. This is just one member of our team, and I will introduce another in my next post!
So Simon and I figured most things out for the 3D Parts for our DIY eFoil before all the parts arrived. This would allow us to hit the ground running once they arrived – AND THEY HAVE NOW ARRIVED!

Then, I decided to make a few more changes…
Changes like these happened for about 4 weeks straight for all 5 parts we designed. As products arrived and specs didn’t match the descriptions we had to redesign with the new specs. Just these two parts here had over 56 revisions thus far.
After many late nights, the first 3D model was ready for printer
First 3D Printed Part for Our DIY Electric Hydrofoil Has been Born – but still needs more improvement 🙂
In short, this is just one part of MANY that is required for a DIY Electric Hydrofoil Board Kit. Hopefully, this sheds some light on time involved as this is not as simple/small of a job as most people think, well, if you want to do it right – built to last…
We hope to have our first video out in the next week so stay tuned, and be sure to join my email list for special posts:
